Existance

While discussing the cube theory my colleagues and I had many interesting side conversations. The majority of these were completely trivial and have no truth to them. One of these however I found particularly interesting and thought provoking.

The topic of this conversation was existance, and how we determine what it is. In other words do we determine our own existance. For example and this was the example used in the original conversation; If we believed we could walk through walls could we? Perhaps the only reason we can't is that for centuries we have believed walls are hard and from a very young age this is what we know.

What if there was no way that a person could be conveyed this message? This person would have to have no senses at all. But they are still alive, right? What would be the difference between them and a rock? They would have no way of expressing themselves, no outside contact. This would mean that rocks could go through walls as well, there is no way they can be influenced by anything else, such as another rock that has already experienced the hardness of a wall. However, in our experiences, rocks cannot go through walls. There must be a reason for this, so maybe because we think walls are hard anything we experience will demonstrate this. Assuming that our vegetable person from before can even get through a wall. Let's say someone threw him at a wall; he would be fine and would go right through. The person that threw him however who belives that the wall is very real and very hard would be awestruck. This leads to an obvious contradiction: 1)A person that does not know a wall is hard can walk through it. 2)If a person had no senses they could not know the wall existed and thus would be able to walk through it. 3)A person that knows the wall exists cannot walk through it. >><< Contradiction. If a person could go through a wall in his version of reality he could not in anothers reality. The person cannot both go through the wall and not at the same time.

Also if this was true it would in essence make every individual a God. Then there is the issue of the rock. There is virtually no difference between the rock and the vegetable man, so if the vegetable person is still a human than there is no difference between a person and a rock. Return to homepage
